Online advertising in Indonesia
Why is it so difficult to ask company advertise online here in Indonesia?
We have 18 Million users with approximatelly 30% use internet in their daily life.
The number is 9x the total Singaporean users, almost 4 x the size of vietnamese users,
and more than twice as big as Thailand....Dude, we are the biggest internet users in South East Asia!!
Indonesian Online users' growth jumped 800% within 5 years, it increased 7 million from 2005 (11 million) and is predicted to be 22 million in 2007
Lets go deeper shall we,
Among those 18 million, do you know they are dominated by male (72%), with age between 20-40 (83%), reside in Jakarta and surrounding (52%), with 72% have bachelor degree or above.
Now lets talk about money:
46% users has personal income more than 3 million Rupiah, where 11%of them have more than 10 million rupiah personal income.
Going to their behavior:
66% of them spending more than 2 hours online, working people with high disposable income do not see TV as much as they do, they are busy working and work with their computer!
55% use internet at work, i know you dont want to admit this, but this the fact, your employees are playing around with internet from 8 am to 6 pm
62% admitted they use internet mostly at work place
84% use online to look for information before buying products
Now percentage may not mean so much, you can convert that to exact number.
Can imagine how big it is, its a huge affluent indonesian market out there untapped by most companies
Why do Indonesian company still reluctant on online ads?
1. Maybe they dont know the statistic and no one educate them about it
2. Maybe they feel affraid of it, affraid of not knowing how to use internet and being fool around by agency/website who offer the service
3. Website may not send them the correct reporting, because there is no third party verification who can justify the report.
3. They dont know how to measure the effectiveness
4. They do not have the technology to create interesting and effective online campaigns
5. They do not have my phone number....'cos if they do they will find out that online advertising is interesting and very cost effective
